Tips of Using Ultra Thin Wall PET Heat Shrink Tubing BH-MT-PET-CB
BH-MT-PET-CB Medical Grade Ultra Thin Wall PET Heat Shrink Tubing, Prevent wrinkling
Q1: How do I select the right size to match my part?
A1:A snug fit is best: a clearance of 15% or less. The PET tubing size should not exceed 15% of the maximum diameter of the part.
Q2: What is the shrink temperature?
A2:Approximately 70°C to 190°C. The recommended shrink temperature for most applications is 150°C.
Q3: How do I control shrinkage?
A3:When shrinkage is uncontrolled, BH-MT-PET-CB heat shrink tubing shrinks both radially and axially at the same time. In most cases, optimal overall performance is achieved with minimal shrinkage (less than 15%–20%), unless the tube drawing process described below is used or axial shrinkage is restricted. During heating, you can restrict axial shrinkage by fixing the ends of the heat shrink tubing to prevent the length from shrinking. This allows the radial shrink ratio to reach as high as 50% or more, depending on the temperature.
Q4: How do I achieve high radial shrinkage (tube drawing)?
A4:Use the tube drawing process to achieve a very high radial shrink ratio (up to 50% or more). Simply apply axial tension and stretch the heat shrink tubing while heating it. At temperatures below 100°C, the diameter can be reduced by more than 50%; at higher temperatures up to approximately 190°C, the diameter is further reduced.
Q5: How do I avoid wrinkling during heat shrinking?
A5:Cause of wrinkling: uncontrolled shrinkage — when PET material undergoes an unrestricted heat shrink process, both radial and axial dimensions decrease simultaneously, causing surface wrinkling. Recommended procedure: Step 1: Place the heat shrink tubing over the target component and maintain tension on the tails at both ends throughout the heating process to restrict wrinkles. Step 2: Start heating at the midpoint using a rotating motion, gradually extending the heat toward both lengthwise ends while maintaining consistent rotation of the material. Note: To increase the radial shrink ratio, a controlled longitudinal tension applied during the heating stage can achieve an even greater shrink ratio.
